Connect from Off-Campus
Proxy Server Authentication
When following links to most research resources from OBIS, the Library web site, or our list of databases you should be automatically asked to provide your name and barcode number (on the back of your OCID - e.g. 29362xxxxxx) to log in while off campus.
If you are not automatically prompted to enter your name and barcode you can authenticate with Oberlin College Proxy Server or with OhioLINK.
Problems?
If you encounter problems accessing a database or journal, follow these steps:
- Go to https://www.ohiolink.edu/content/ohiolink_connection_information
- Copy and paste the information about your browser and IP address into an email message to reference@oberlin.edu
- Include the name of the database and the date and time you experienced the problem
- Describe or copy and paste any error messages you received while trying to access the database
Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Use the CIT's Virtual Private Network (VPN). When you run the VPN all of your network activity is funneled through a secure server and you will be recognized as an Oberlin College user and will not be asked to log in to resources. More about the VPN.
Please visit the CIT downloads page and choose the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client appropriate for your computer. Cisco AnyConnect is also available for Apple iOS and Android devices.
For complete installation and connection instructions, visit the CIT Wiki VPN page. If you have additional questions, contact the CIT Help Desk.
If you are completing a remote semester from outside of the United States, please make sure that VPN use is legal in the country in which you reside before running the VPN. Remote students not comfortable running the VPN should contact reference@oberlin.edu for assistance with content from VPN-only resources.
