Associate Professor of African and Black Atlantic Art History Matthew Rarey
Please join us for the Friends of the Libraries’ Spring 2025 Book Talk featuring Associate Professor of African and Black Atlantic Art History Matthew Rarey who will discuss his award-winning book Insignificant Things: Amulets and the Art of Survival in the Early Black Atlantic (Duke University Press, 2023).
Rarey’s book recently won the 2024 Charles Rufus Morey Book Award from the College Art Association, as well as the Arnold Rubin Outstanding Publication Award from the Arts Council of the African Studies Association. It was also one of three finalists for the 2024 Outstanding First Book Prize from the Association for the Study of the Worldwide African Diaspora.
