By Alison Ricker

Kiran Williams portrait, smiling. The Friends of the Libraries Excellence in Library Research Award for the 2021-22 academic year was awarded to Kiran Williams ‘22 for her project “Exploring the Domestic Enslaved: Pompeii.” The $500 award was announced at the Friends of the Libraries Annual Dinner, November 4, 2022. Professor of Classics Drew Wilburn nominated Kiran for her project in his course on Pompeii Life and Afterlife. The project combines images and text in an engaging and educational digital exhibit. Kiran intends to continue enhancing the site as part of her Master of Library Science degree at the University of Illinois. The committee agreed that Kiran’s creative project demonstrated an excellent understanding of the Libraries’ scholarly resources, including databases, journals, books, and other materials in both print and digital formats.

Faculty are invited to nominate student projects for the Award. Nominations for projects and papers completed during the 2022-23 academic year will be considered. Details and the nomination form are on the Friends of the Libraries Research Award webpage.

Its committee members are Kathleen Abromeit, Megan Mitchell, Alison Ricker (chair), Ann Sherif, and Elizabeth Sullivan.
