Friends of the Oberlin College Libraries Enhance Library Acquisitions
February 20, 2023
Once again, the generosity of the Libraries’ Friends group has strengthened teaching, learning, and research at Oberlin. Over $50,000 in special acquisitions funds will support acquisitions in music, history, science, and gender studies this year. We list just a few examples of the important and varied research resources made possible through these funds. A detailed list will appear in the Libraries’ annual report.
- Three streaming video collections (Bloomsbury Video, Good Docs, and Icarus Fiction Films).
- Targeted "capsule" collections to improve our holdings in:
- Percussion Music by Women
- Musical Settings of Black Poetry
- Miniature Books
- Musical Scores by Latin American Women, and
- Medieval and Early Modern Gender Nonconformity
- The manuscript account book (1861-64) of Henry Everard Peck. Peck was an abolitionist clergyman and professor at Oberlin College prior to his appointment as the first U. S. Minister Resident/Consul General to Haiti (where he died from yellow fever in 1867).
- In the Sciences, we acquired the three-volume Comprehensive Gut Microbiota, which provides new insights into gut microbiota as a critical mediator of human health and well-being.
- And finally, the Friends have provided a great boon to our Conservatory students through the acquisition of Henle Library, a musical scores app, which will allow them to download scores used in teaching and performance.
Thank you, Friends!
