February 13, 2023
The William P. Norris Papers are now available for research in the College Archives. Norris (1943-2014) was a sociology professor at Oberlin from 1978 to 2008. Beginning with his Peace Corps service with the poor in Bahia, Brazil, Norris was deeply engaged in social justice throughout his career. He pioneered teaching and research in queer studies at Oberlin. His enduring legacy was his successful committee work on domestic partner rights and other LGBTQ issues at Oberlin and elsewhere. Norris and his partner Clayton Koppes transferred ownership of their home (Koppes-Norris House) to the College in 2011 as a residence for the Dean of Students and a community space.
