Making an Imprint
March 02, 2017
Letterpress Printing has been a mainstay of on-campus winter term projects since it began seven years ago.
Led by Ed Vermue, Special Collections and Preservation Librarian, the class introduces students to the basics of letterpress printing—typesetting, page architecture, page setting, and illustration—and allows them hands-on experience with rare printing presses, located on the second floor of Mudd Library.
This year, the class crafted a children’s book, a clever take on the 2016 Presidential Election. Vermue and his students were also joined by Bob Keleman, adjunct instructor and alumnus of the Kent State University School of Visual Communication Design.
