Long Term Scholar Studies
Deadlines
Fall 2025: August 20, 2025 (As of August 22, there are still a small number of rooms left and fall applications are still being accepted).
Winter Term 2025: December 10, 2025
Spring 2026: January 15, 2026
Summer 2026: May 25, 2026
Availability
Long term scholar studies are reserved for assigned students only.
Eligibility is determined by the Main Library staff. Scholar studies may be assigned for one semester or an academic year. Scholar studies reservations approved for fall semester are not guaranteed to be renewed for the spring semester. If you indicate on your application that you would like to keep the room in the spring, you will be notified approximately one week after the spring application deadline has passed as to whether a room is available.
Demand exceeds supply
- Not every student who applies will get a scholar study
- Students on the waiting list will be considered in the order in which the applications were received
- Assignments are made at the beginning of each semester and winter term on a first-come, first-served basis.
Application Process
Students and Affiliate Scholars
Step 1: Have your advisor, department head, or project/program director sign the scholar study sponsor form.
- Not sure if you've been accepted to do honors? Submit an application in May anyway and have your prospective advisor use the "Other" field to describe the date by which you will know if you are accepted. Students from departments that use the GPA at the end of the fall semester to automatically enroll students in honors may ask their department chair to contact the library to reserve slots for students from those departments.
Step 2: Complete the scholar study application, including:
- Accepting all terms
- Uploading your signed sponsor form.
- Selecting the semesters for which you wish to have a scholar study assigned. Honors and capstone students are unlikely to be assigned studies for both the fall and spring semesters. Fall students requesting to keep their study for the spring semester will be notified approximately one week after the spring application deadline about the status of their spring request.
Faculty
Complete the scholar study application. Note that library policy restricts the number of scholar studies assigned to faculty and that faculty who have other office space on campus will not be assigned rooms.
Rules and Regulations
By submitting a scholar study application, you agree to abide by the MCT Main Library Scholar Studies Rules.
All scholar studies offer wired and wireless access to the campus network.
- Contact the CIT Help Desk for assistance connecting your computer to the campus network.
