Internship Summary
Are you interested in a possible career in libraries? Consider applying to become an Oberlin College Libraries Intern. Gain experience alongside librarians in the Research & Instruction team at Terrell Library.
This semester-long, paid internship, supported by Career Exploration and Development, will provide a broad overview of academic librarianship.
This position is for the Spring 2026 semester (February 2-May 8, 2026) for current Oberlin students. 6-8 hours per week for 15 weeks during weekdays are required. Some evenings are possible on Monday-Thursday.
Responsibilities
The internship begins with an introductory week on library history and values. Interns will then complete two-week rotations on topics like collection development, information literacy, social justice in libraries, providing reference and research help, outreach and programming, and user experience (UX). Interns will finish the internship by completing a hands-on project related to one of the above areas.
Throughout the internship, students will meet weekly with their internship coordinator, discuss readings and other materials with librarians, provide 4 hours of reference service weekly at the research help desk, and have independent time for readings and project-based work.
Qualifications
- Must be enrolled at Oberlin College as a current student
- Interest in library and information science careers, or in related fields.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Able to communicate effectively in both written and oral form
- Willingness to do a variety of tasks and learn a wide range of skills

Compensation
$1,800 educational stipend, paid in two installments (February 1 and April 1).
